If we are truly offering our thoughts and prayers to the tragedy that is the epic endemic of gun violence in America, we will have our hearts changed to want what God wants on this issue. If we pray and nothing changes, then we have not truly prayed.
When someone engages in mass violence, many factors will have created the perfect storm for them to act in such an inhumane manner. Every time we oversimply these tragedies and categorize the perpetrator as a crazy lunatic, we fuel the public perception that all mental health patients are dangerous individuals.

The Church can be confident that it will be the final institution left standing, as all earthly governments dissolve at the return of Christ, and blow away into the wind like chaff. In other words, in the end, the Church wins. So, we should act like it now.
Or, viewed from another angle, rather than Christian leaders equipping their people to swim against the tide of the culture, they too are being carried by the current of the age. And that, in turn, means that the light is not shining and the salt is not being salty.
