For individual Christians and Christ’s Church in America, this is our “Esther moment.” The choice is clearly delineated now between the Gospel and the gods of this world. It may well be a difficult choice and one that may even cost us our lives in the end.
The early Church did not skip a beat, but continued to thrive after mass persecution broke out against them. Even though they were forced out of their homes and lost everything, their mind was on spreading the Gospel!
As we wait for Jesus to return, and as we make disciples, we should also work, raise families and seek the welfare of our nation. And that includes praying for our nation’s leaders, whether we like their policies or not.
Being made in God’s image has many implications, one of which is that human beings are uniquely designed to have dominion over the earth. But note that the passage states, “Let Us make man in Our image.”
The Body of Christ must not commit the same sins of the past, standing by while injustices were being perpetrated against the Jewish community. We must be friends that show up for them, stand with them and remind the world that anti-Semitism is always wrong.
When the world largely ignores the suffering of those in distress, we must pay attention, step up and take action to alleviate that suffering in whatever way we can.
